Tunnel discovered underneath a temple in Alexandria could solve the mystery of Cleopatra’s resting place

A tunnel discovered underneath a temple in Egypt could solve the mystery of Cleopatra’s resting place.

A mysterious tunnel found in Egypt could lead to Cleopatra’s tomb.

Experts think that the tunnel – which has been discovered underneath an Egyptian temple – could provide the pathway to the long-lost resting place of the last queen of Egypt and her lover, the Roman general Mark Anthony.

The mile-long passage lies under the Tamporisis Magna Temple near the ancient Egyptian capital of Alexandria.

Archaeologist Kathleen Martinez, whose team made the discovery, said if the queen is buried there the find would be “the most important discovery of the 21st century”.

She added: “This is the perfect place for the tomb of Cleopatra.”

The research team also found ancient artefacts inside the temple – including coins bearing the names of both Cleopatra and the ancient Greek warrior king Alexander the Great.

Martinez, from the University of San Domingo in the Dominican Republic, said: “If there’s a one per cent chance that the last queen of Egypt could be buried there, it is my duty to search for her.” Source: Bang Showbiz
