Former ‘Love Island’ star Molly-Mae Hague has hit out at the “nasty” reaction to her baby’s name, admitting she had to turn Instagram comments off.
Molly-Mae Hague found it “really hard” to reveal her baby’s name to the world.
The 23-year-old reality star has been in a relationship with ‘Love Island’ co-star Tommy Fury since they met on the set of the ITV2 dating show in 2019, and after announcing the arrival of their daughter towards the end of last month took to social media again the following day to confirm that the little one has been named after Disney character Bambi.
But Molly-Mae has now admitted she was “brought back down to earth” by the negative response to the moniker, and has hit back at the “nasty” reaction.
Speaking in a video posted to YouTube, she said: “The name reveal was a hard day for me. I switched Instagram comments off on that post. I was brought back down to earth very quickly of how nasty this world can be.
“Because we’d literally known that our first baby girl was going to be called Bambi, we had gotten so used to the idea that that was going to be her name and to us it wasn’t really that unusual anymore.
“And I know it’s unusual and unique and not going to be to everyone’s taste, but when we announced it, in my mind it was just beautiful, it’s her, she’s Bambi and that’s a beautiful name, amazing, amazing. And then just two seconds after posting it I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ “
Last year, The PrettyLittleThing creative director explained that she had chosen the name when she was a child herself and teased that the moniker was “really unusual” and “different”, and insisted that she knew nobody else with that name.
She said: “Yes, we do have a baby girl name picked out, I’ve had the name picked out since I was a baby girl myself. It’s always been a dream baby girl name and luckily when I met Tommy and I told him the name I’ve always dreamt of using, he absolutely loved it too. It’s a really really unusual and a different name, I do not know anybody else with the name. I’ve not seen any other girls with the name before, it’s that different.”
